Saul's Sight

Helping The Blind See

Adonai

The name Adonai is used 434 times in the Old Testament. The first time we see this name being used is in Genesis 15. This is when God appears to Abraham to make His covenant with him. In verse 2 Abraham refers to God as “Adonai”. Adonai is the plural version of the word Adon. When talking about God we use the plural version, but when talking about human rulers, the singular version of the name is used. Adonai is a name that parallels the names Yahweh and Jehovah. Adonai simply means Lord. The difference is that LORD in all capitals represents Yahweh. When we write Lord only capitalizing the first letter it means Adonai.
