Calvinism is a view within Christianity. There are five main points of Calvinism. The first point is total depravity. This means that after the fall every part of humanity is tainted by sin. This includes our mind, will, emotions, and body. Next is the idea of unconditional election. This states that God chooses certain individuals for salvation solely based on His mercy and nothing the human could do. This choice by God is seen as independent from any human action or will. Then we have the idea of limited atonement. This states that Christ’s sacrifice was only intended to save the elect (the people God chose). Next we have irresistible grace. This means that the elect that God chose for salvation can not resist God’s call. The final point of Calvinism is perseverance of the Saints. This means that those who God has called and saved cannot fall away from the faith permanently. Within these five points there is a lot to unpack, so in this study I deep dive into each point and explain my point of view on it.
