When I was younger, I overheard my older sisters talking about “the unforgivable sin”. I didn’t know what this sin was or even what it meant, but I was terrified. What if I accidentally commit this sin and go to Hell forever? This idea that I might accidentally commit this terrible sin stuck with me for a while. I started trying to guess what this sin was without actually doing any research. Maybe it was idolatry or sexual immorality? Whatever it was, I had to make sure I didn’t do it.
A few years later I was talking with one of my atheist friends, and they brought up the topic of the unforgivable sin found in Mathew 12. I didn’t know what to say, so I told her I’d do some more research and get back to her.
It’s very important to know and understand your Bible to avoid confusion and misinterpretation.
