Saul's Sight

Helping The Blind See

People Fail

I had one person that I trusted with everything. He was my pastor, and he was my safe place. He counseled me through some of the worst years of my life, and he took up a sort of fatherly or older brother role in my life. That is, until one day. We were meeting during lunch to talk through some issues with my friends. Right before I left that meeting he said something very hurtful about the scars on my arms. I know he didn’t mean to hurt me, but the way it was brought up and the timing was not good. After that moment I felt like I couldn’t trust him anymore. He was no longer a safe place. That realization was really hard for me.

When people fail us the only thing we can do is lean into God. When our loved ones hurt us and let us down, God is our one true constant. “The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2.

We need to lean into God even when we have good people in our life so that when something happens we have Someone to lean on at all times. Be careful not to only use Him when it’s the last resort. He loves you and always wants to talk to you.

God proves over and over that He will never fail His people. The story of the Israelites in the wilderness is a big example of this. Even though the Israelites betray their agreement with God to only worship Him, God never abandons them. He disciplines them at times, but in the end He always takes care of them and gives them way more chances than they deserve.

The ultimate display of God’s love and faithfulness to us is through Christ Jesus. Despite the pain and absolute suffering Jesus knew He’d have to go through, the sinless Jesus stayed faithful to His purpose. The Father also shows His faithfulness by being willing to give up His son.

Even when people fail us, God is faithful and He loves us more than any human could. Lean on Him no matter what, so that when something happens you have the firm foundation and will not be shaken.
